friend moving to SF

a co-worker and friend is moving to SF. she is an art buyer and artist with a real eye for talent. she loves to wear warm colors like burnt orange and golden yellows. as a good-bye gift for her, i illustrated my gumdrop "person" with my friend's characteristics plus a few extra artsy flairs. here, she is happily framing herself in SF with the golden gate bridge in the background.

squash banner

this is a sequence of images of a Flash animation that I built for my workplace. the concept: to illustrate and animate a "sexy squash." there was no other art direction. so, I took the phrase "sexy squash" and ran with it. referenced a few sexpots in history –Marilyn, Jessica Rabbit, Farrah Fawcett, but I like to think that Summer Squash (as she's called) stands alone.

recipe + illustration #2: cheese-on-cheese-on-cheese sandwich

Ok, so, this is hardly a recipe. And many of you may unswallow at the idea of cheese on cheese (on cheese) BUT you really shouldn't knock it until you've tried it. It's delicious and salty and cheesy and amazing. Plus, it's rich in calcium which gives you strong bones. So, give it a whirl and spread the cheesy love. :)

Cheese-on-Cheese-on-Cheese Sandwich

Serves 1

Ingredients:
• 2 slices of American cheese (such as Kraft)
• Sharp cheddar flavored Easy Cheese

Directions:
1. Squeeze Easy Cheese directly onto one slice of cheese.
2. Top Easy Cheese-d slice of cheese with other slice of cheese.
3. Eat and never, ever think about what you are eating.

recipe + illustration #1: creamy scrambled eggs with chervil

Serves 2

Ingredients:

2 eggs
1 oz. cream cheese, softened and cubed into 1/4" chunks
Sprinkle of baking powder
1/2 tsp. dried chervil (or to taste)
3/4 Tbs. extra virgin olive oil
1 shallot, diced
salt
freshly ground black pepper

Directions:

1. Lightly beat eggs, softened cream cheese, baking powder and dried chervil in a medium-sized bowl.
2. Heat 3/4 Tbs. extra-virgin olive oil over medium-high heat in small skillet.
3. Add diced shallot and cook until soft, about 2-3 minutes.
4. Once shallots are softened, add egg mixture to the skillet. Allow the eggs to slightly set around the perimeter of the skillet. Once eggs begin to set, use a spatula to pull eggs away from the outside of the skillet towards the center of the skillet. 5. Continue to let eggs set and pull them towards the center of the skillet until eggs are completely cooked through and soft. Scramble the eggs by breaking them apart with a spatula.
6. Top eggs with salt and pepper (to taste) and serve.

Bon appetit!

more to come...

I'm having a lot of fun with this illustration style. During my downtime at work, I have been illustrating vegetable people with faces, etc. My co-worker looked over my shoulder and said, "Why don't you make a field guide with your illustrations? Assign each veggie person with their scientific name and a brief description about them." So, I followed his suggestion and it was a lot of fun. I'll post those samples soon. I am beginning to think I could do this for a living... :)
